Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In April 2021 I was told my breast cancer had returned and had spread to my lungs and bone. Giving me a Stage 4 diagnosis.
I read somewhere that you get to choose. For me there is no choice. I choose life
My motivation is to focus on the here and now, and fill my life with love and adventures and to create something fucking awesome as a legacy. I have decided that Hākinakina is my legacy and I will keep on making beautiful swimwear and to use my creativity and businesses as a financier to my healing.
That's why Breast Cancer Awareness Month is so important to me. So this month 10% of every sale will go to breast cancer research.
So when you shop with us in October, you’re not only choosing swimwear that helps you feel confident and covered, you’re also helping fund research that gives hope to women like me — and thousands more.
The money will be going to Malaghan Institute of Research . They are taking a revolutionary approach to fighting cancer. CAR T-cell therapy has the potential to transform cancer treatment. They are working to make it accessible and affordable for all New Zealanders in need.
CAR T-cell therapy stands for Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell therapy. A one-off treatment, it works by redirecting a patient’s own immune cells (T-cells) in the laboratory, to directly identify and attack cancer cells. These modified T-cells are then returned to the patient where they can attack and destroy cancer cells.
